Please be aware that this old REACH registration data factsheet is no longer maintained; it remains frozen as of 19th May 2023.

The new ECHA CHEM database has been released by ECHA, and it now contains all REACH registration data. There are more details on the transition of ECHA's published data to ECHA CHEM here.

Experimental data for the substance triethoxy(phenyl)silane (CAS 780-69-8) are only available for invertebrates. Acute toxicity to invertebrates has been investigated according to OECD guideline 202. Daphnia magna were exposed for 48 h under static conditions (2003). The 48-h EC50 value for Daphnia magna exposed to triethoxy(phenyl)silane (780-69-8) was 37 mg/L (nominal).

In order to reduce animal testing read-across was conducted to the analogue substance trichlorophenylsilane (CAS 98-13-5) in order to fulfil the REACH Annex IX requirements. Both substances hydrolyse rapidly in contact with water to the same silanol hydrolysis product phenylsilanetriol. The other hydrolysis products are ethanol and hydrogen chloride, respectively. More details on read across justifications can be found in the attached justification in the respective target entry and in the overall justification for grouping of substances attached in IUCLID Section 13.

Limit tests with the read across substance trichlorophenylsilane (CAS 98-13-5) at 100 mg test item/L did not show any effects towards fish, invertebrates or algae.

QSAR predictions for the hydrolysis product phenylsilanetriol confirm the low short-term toxicity of the substance to aquatic organisms: EC50/LC50 values of 1400, 600 and 120 mg/L for fish, invertebrates and algae were calculated, respectively.
