Please be aware that this old REACH registration data factsheet is no longer maintained; it remains frozen as of 19th May 2023.

The new ECHA CHEM database has been released by ECHA, and it now contains all REACH registration data. There are more details on the transition of ECHA's published data to ECHA CHEM here.

Description of key information

Cyclohexanol is readily biodegradable and is expected to be rapidly biodegraded in the environment. No further testing of the biotic degradability of the substance is necessary.

Additional information

Cyclohexanol was found to be readily biodegradable in a valid study according to OECD 301C; Modified MITI Test(I). Sludge was sampled from 4 different sewage treatment plants, 3 rivers, one lake and two bays in Japan at 4 different times in year. The cultivation was done under aerated conditions at 25 ± 2 °C and pH was adjusted to 7.0 +/- 1.0 with NaOH in a closed system oxygen consumption measuring apparatus. The test was conducted at a sludge concentration of 30 mg/L and with 100 mg cyclohexanol/L. The cultivating duration was 28 days. The reference substance was aniline. The BOD result for the test substance was 94 to 99% degradation.

The inherent biodegradability of cyclohexanol was tested according to OECD 302B in non-adapted activated sludge in a closed vessel. The elimination was mainly by biological degradation. The test duration was 7 days and the degree of TOC (%) was 97%.
