Please be aware that this old REACH registration data factsheet is no longer maintained; it remains frozen as of 19th May 2023.

The new ECHA CHEM database has been released by ECHA, and it now contains all REACH registration data. There are more details on the transition of ECHA's published data to ECHA CHEM here.

Description of key information

The substance is with high probability acutely not harmful to aquatic organisms. Chronc effects are not expected.

Additional information

Acute tests on all three trophic levels were performed to examine the acute aquatic toxicity of 2, 2’, 2’’-nitrilotriethanol. Additionally, a chronic test on aquatic invertebrates is available.

Daphnia magna turned out to be the most sensitive species with a reproduction NOEC of 16 mg/l after 21 days of exposure. Effects of 2, 2’, 2’’-nitrilotriethanol towards fish and algae were found at a LC50 (96h) of 11800 mg/l and an ErC50 (72h) of 512 mg/l, respectively.

Thus, 2, 2’, 2’’-nitrilotriethanol is considered not acutely harmful for aquatic organisms.

Short-term toxicity to fish

The substance is with high probability acutely not harmful for fish (96 -h LC50 = 11800 mg/L, nom., analyt. verified).

Long-term toxicity to fish

Fish is not the most sensitive trophic level; therefore, testing has been waived based on the relative species sensitivity method. No chronic effects are expected (NOEC > 1 mg/L).

Short-term toxicity to aquatic invertebrates

The substance is with high probability acutely not harmful to aquatic invertebrates (48 -h EC50 = 610 mg/L; nom.).

Long-term toxicity to aquatic invertebrates

Chronic effects to invertebrates are not expected (21 -d NOEC = 16 mg/L; nom. analyt. verif.).

Toxicity to aquatic algae

The substance is with high probability acutely not harmful to algae (72 -h ErC50 = 512 mg/L, neutralised, nom.).

Chronic effects to algae are not expected (72 -h ErC50 = 26 mg/L, neutralised, nom.)

Toxicity to microorganisms

The inhibition of the degradation activity of activated sludge is not anticipated when introduced in appropriately low concentrations.
