Description of key information

Pigment cobalt zinc aluminate blue spinel (CAS 68186-87-8) is an odourless blue powder.

- Melting point of the pigment is > 1000 °C.

- Relative density: 4.49.

- Particle size distribution: D50 = 2.4 µm, D90 = 5.2 µm, D10 = 0.8 µm

- Dustiness:

total: 100.35 mg/g

MMAD= 49.04 µm, GSD= 7.72

Fractional deposition in human respiratory tract: Head (ET): 42.5 %, Tracheobronchial (TB): 0.6 %, Pulmonary (PU): 0.7 %

-Transformation/dissolutio, pH6 (pH that maximises dissolution)

The dissolved concentrations of zinc and cobalt at a 1 mg/l loading after 7 and 28 days and a 100 mg/l loading after 7 days were below the LOD (0.07 µg/L and 0.11µg/L) and therefore not determinable.

The dissolved concentrations of aluminium at a 100 mg/l loading after 7 days were 76.43 µg/L .

The dissolved concentrations of aluminium at a 1 mg/l loading after 7 and 28 days were 48.75 µg/L and 23.48 µg/L, respectively .
