Results and discussion

Flammable solidsopen allclose all
Key result
Test procedure:
other: burning index according to VDI 2263
Remarks on result:
other: burning index BZ 5
Remarks:
burning with flame or spark generation
Test procedure:
burning rate test: preliminary screening test
Burning time:
> 120 s
Remarks on result:
substance does not ignite and propagate combustion either by burning with flame or smouldering along 200 mm of the powder train within the 2 minutes test period

Any other information on results incl. tables

The product showed burning with propagation of the combustion when an ignition source (flame or hot wire) was applied at ambient temperature and 100°C. The product did not melt.

The combustion behaviour of the product at ambient temperature is characterized by the burning index BZ 5 (burning with flame or spark generation)

Therefore, the burning rate had to be determined. In the pre-test the flame extinguished after 2 cm of the burning distance reproducible. The main study did not need to be performed.

the result is considered as below the limit of 2 min for the entire burning distance.

Applicant's summary and conclusion

Interpretation of results:
GHS criteria not met
Remarks:
regulation (EC) no 1272/2008
Conclusions:
Combustion Number (BZ) 5 was determined. The burning rate did not meet the classification criteria since the flame extinguished after 2 cm of the burning distance.
Therefore, the substance has not to be classified as flammable solid according to Regulation (EC) No 1272/2008.
