Description of key information

Three standard rabbit skin irritation studies, 2 with 4 hours exposure  of the intact skin with the undiluted test substance under semi-occluded conditions, and one with 24 h occluded exposure to intact or abraded skin, revealed that the test substance was not irritant to rabbit skin using the citeria of Dir. 1272/2008 (EC).  In three standard eye irritation studies in rabbits the undiluted test substance did not show an eye irritating effect based on the corneal, iridial and conjunctival reactions evaluated and using the criteria of Dir. 1272/2008 (EC).

Additional information

The available data indicate that 2,2-bis(chloromethyl)trimethylene bis(bis(2-chloroethyl)phosphate) is non-irritant to the rabbit eye and skin. The lack of any skin or eye irritation and the lack of irritation observed in the acute inhalation studies suggest that the test substance would be unlikely to produce significant respiratory tract irritation.

Justification for classification or non-classification

Based on standard skin and eye irritation studies in rabbits the substance should not be classified as skin or eye irritant according to EC Dir. 1272/2008. Likewise the observations in the available acute inhalation study suggest that the substance shoudl not b classified as respiratory irritant according to Regulation (EC) 1272/2008 and EC Dir. 67/548 and adaptations.
