Description of key information

No data on carcinogenicity of zinc bis(dibenzyldithiocarbamate) (ZBEC) are available. In accordance with Column 2 of REACH Annex X, a carcinogenicity study may be proposed if the substance is classified as mutagen category 3 or there is evidence from the repeated dose studies that the substance is able to induce hyperplasia and/or pre-neoplastic lesions. Available data on ZBEC indicate that the substance is not genotoxic in vivo. In the 13-week oral study with no evidence of pre-neoplastic lesions or hyperplasia was found. Therefore, it is concluded that ZBEC is not carcinogenic and the performance of a carcinogenicity study is not indicated.

Key value for chemical safety assessment

Justification for classification or non-classification

Based on the lack of genotoxic potential of zinc bis(dibenzyldithiocarbamate) (ZBEC) and repeated dose toxicity data, classification of ZBEC for carcinogenicity is not warranted in accordance with Directive 67/548/EEC and EU Classification, Labelling and Packaging of Substances and Mixtures (CLP) Regulation (EC) No. 1272/2008.
