Additional information

The flammability of Sodium 2-hydroxyethanesulphonate was determined according to Directive 92/69/EC Method A.10 (1992) on 2008-07-09 at the Dr.U.Noack-Laboratorien, 31157 Sarstedt, Germany.

The flammability of Sodium 2-hydroxyethanesulphonate was determined by ignition of a cluster with a length of 250 mm, a width of 20 mm and a height of 10 mm with the hot flame of a gas burner.

Sodium 2-hydroxyethanesulphonate was not flammable within 2 min by the hot flame of a gas burner. No combustion or reaction could be observed after removal of the ignition flame.

The test item Sodium 2-hydroxyethanesulphonate has to be considered as not highly flammable according to the criteria of the test guideline.

Considering the structure formula and experience in handling and use it can be stated that pyrophoricity and flammability on contact with water is not a concern for the substance.

Justification for classification or non-classification

The flammability of Sodium 2-hydroxyethanesulphonate (batch number: EK 08/122) was determined according to Directive 92/69/EC Method A.10 (1992) on 2008-07-09 at the Dr.U.Noack-Laboratorien, 31157 Sarstedt, Germany.

Based on the results of the flammability testing, consideration of the structural formula and experience in handling and use, the test substance sodium 2-hydroxyethanesulphonate is not classified as flammable according to Council Directive 67/548/EEC and CLP(GHS).
