No data on acute toxicity of 1,2-Benzenedicarboxylic acid, di-C16-18-alkyl esters (CAS 90193-76-3) to aquatic invertebrates was available. Therefore, data on the short-term toxicity to aquatic invertebrates for the structurally related analogue substances

1,2-Benzenedicarboxylic acid, mixed cetyl and stearyl esters (CAS 68442-70-6) and Di(tridecyl)phthalate (CAS 119-06-2) was used as read-across in accordance with Regulation (EC) No. 1907/2006, Annex XI, 1.5.

The short -term toxicity of 1,2-Benzenedicarboxylic acid, mixed cetyl and stearyl esters (CAS 68442-70-6)

was tested according to DIN guideline 38412/11 under GLP conditions, using Daphnia magna as test species. After 48 hours exposure, an EC0 of >= 10000 mg/L was reported (value above the water solubility of the test substance). The result is supported by a second study available for the structural analogue substance

Di(tridecyl)phthalate (CAS 119-06-2). The acute toxicity was tested in a study following OECD guideline 202. Daphnia magna was exposed to the substance for 48 hours. At test termination an EC50 (48 h) >50 mg/L was determined.

Thus, based on the above mentioned result, and due to the structural and profile similarities of the substances, as are explained with in the overall endpoint summary 6.1 it can be concluded that no toxicological short-term effects on aquatic invertebrates are expected up to the limit of water solubility for 1,2-Benzenedicarboxylic acid, di-C16-18-alkyl ester.
