Description of key information

A reliable study is available for Terpenes and terpenoids, turpentine oil, alpha-pinene fraction oligomers. The 48-hour EL50 for Daphnia magna is >100 mg/L loading rate WAF. The No Observed Effect Loading Rate was 100 mg/L loading rate WAF.

Key value for chemical safety assessment

Additional information

A GLP-compliant study following OECD guideline 202 and EU Method C.2 is available for terpenes and terpenoids, turpentine oil, alpha pinene fraction oligomers.

Due to the low aqueous solubility and complex nature of the test item, for the purposes of the test, the test item was prepared as a Water Accommodated Fraction (WAF). Following a preliminary range-finding test, twenty daphnids (4 replicates of 5 animals) were exposed to a WAF of the test item at single nominal loading rate of 100 mg/L for 48 hours at a temperature of approximately 22 °C under semi-static test conditions. Analytical monitoring of test concentrations was conducted, but as the test item is a UVCB results are expressed as nominal loading rates.

Exposure of Daphnia magna to the test item gave EL50 values of greater than 100 mg/L loading rate WAF. The No Observed Effect Loading Rate was 100 mg/L loading rate WAF. This study is considered reliable and suitable for use as the key study for this endpoint.
