Please be aware that this old REACH registration data factsheet is no longer maintained; it remains frozen as of 19th May 2023.

The new ECHA CHEM database has been released by ECHA, and it now contains all REACH registration data. There are more details on the transition of ECHA's published data to ECHA CHEM here.

Reference
Endpoint:
vapour pressure
Type of information:
experimental study
Adequacy of study:
key study
Study period:
June 2011
Reliability:
1 (reliable without restriction)
Rationale for reliability incl. deficiencies:
other: see 'Remark'
Remarks:
The endpoint is based on experimental work (DSC) with a phlegmatizer/peroxide and calculation. It is not possible to measure the vapour pressure of the substance itself. The Self-Accelerating Decomposition Temperature (SADT) of the substances is 15°C (reference SADT: CLP regulations 2.15.2.3 and UN Recommendations on the Transport of Dangerous Goods, Manual of Tests and Criteria, 5th revised edition, sub-sections 28.1, 28.2, 28.3 and Table 28.3.)
Qualifier:
equivalent or similar to guideline
Guideline:
OECD Guideline 104 (Vapour Pressure Curve)
Deviations:
not specified
Principles of method if other than guideline:
DSC( Differential scanning calorimetry) and calculation
GLP compliance:
no
Type of method:
other: DSC( Differential scanning calorimetry)
Temp.:
25 °C
Vapour pressure:
< 0.24 Pa
Remarks on result:
other: For 1,1,3,3-tetramethylbutyl peroxyneodecanoate 70% solution In odourless mineral spirit
Temp.:
25 °C
Vapour pressure:
> 0 - < 0.01 Pa
Remarks on result:
other: For 1,1,3,3-tetramethylbutyl peroxyneodecanoate pure

Two methods are applied to estimate the vapour pressure of Trigonox 423:

-   For Tx 423-C70: DSC method in combination with the calculated heat of evapouration: Pvap< 0.24 Pa at 25 °C.

-   For Tx 423-pure: From the relation between vapour pressure and mol weight: Pvapwill most likely be in the range of 0.01 to 0.0001 Pa at 25 °C.

Conclusions:
The vapour pressure of 1,1,3,3-tetramethylbutyl peroxyneodecanoate 70% in isododecane at 25°C is below 0.24 Pa, or below 0.0024 mBar. The vapour pressure of 1,1,3,3-tetramethylbutyl peroxyneodecanoate pure at 25°C is most likely around 0.01 to 0.0001 Pa, or around 1*10-4 to 1*10-6 mBar.
Executive summary:

The vapour pressure of Trigonox 423 at 25°C is calculated from experimental data and it is estimated from the relation between vapour pressure and molecular weight of different substances.

Description of key information

The vapour pressure of 1,1,3,3-tetramethylbutyl peroxyneodecanoate 70% s in isododecane at 25°C is below 0.24 Pa. The vapour pressure of 1,1,3,3-tetramethylbutyl peroxyneodecanoate pure at 25°C is most likely around 0.01 to 0.0001 Pa.
The vapour pressure of the test substance at -10°C was determined to be:P(-10°C) = 7.6 ± 0.6 Pa.
The vapour pressure of the test substance at 15°C was determined to be :P(15°C) = 58 ± 5 Pa

Key value for chemical safety assessment

Vapour pressure:
0.01 Pa
at the temperature of:
25 °C

Additional information

The study in 51240-95-0, Vapour pressure, Nuysink , 2006, RS confirms the findings in the key study:

The vapour pressure of 1,1,3,3-tetramethylbutyl peroxyneodecanoate 70% in isododecane

is less than 0.06 mBar = 6 Pa at 25°C.

The study: 51240-95-0, Vapour pressure, Bohle NOTOX, 1991, DS is disregarded,

because:The method used is not applicable for unstable substances. The measured vapour pressure is caused by decomposition of the substance.
