Based upon the experimental results of the key study, the median lethal concentration [LC-50 (96 h)] for CAS No. -6786-83-0 on Danio rerio was found to be > 5.8 mg/L and < 11.6 mg/L. Supporting study also shows the LC50 to be in the range of 1 to 10 mg/L. Thus, the chemical Solvent Blue 4 (with < 0.1 % Michler's Ketone is expected to be toxic to fish in the Chronic Category 2.

Short term toxicity to aquatic invertebrates

The Lethal Concentration (LC50) value of α,α-bis[4-(dimethylamino)phenyl]-4-(phenylamino)naphthalene-1-methanol (Solvent Blue 4) in Aquatic invertebrate Daphnia magna in a 48 hrs study was estimated to be 11.43385 mg/L. Thus,considering the CLP Criteria for aquatic classification of the substance , it is concluded that α,α-bis[4-(dimethylamino)phenyl]-4-(phenylamino)naphthalene-1-methanol exhibit short term toxicity to Aquatic invertebrate [Daphnia magna] in Chronic category 3.

Long term toxicity to aquatic invertebrates

The No Observed Effect Concentration (NOEC) of α,α-bis[4-(dimethylamino)phenyl]-4-(phenylamino)naphthalene-1-methanol (Solvent Blue 4) in Aquatic invertebrate (Daphnia Magna) in 504 hrs study on reproduction effect was estimated to be 0.4063749 mg/L.

Toxicity to aquatic algae and cyanobacteria

The Effective Concentration (EC50) value of α,α-bis[4-(dimethylamino)phenyl]-4-(phenylamino)naphthalene-1-methanol (Solvent Blue 4) in Aquatic algae (Pseudokirchnerella subcapitata) in a 72 hrs study on growth effect was estimated to be 19.2033 mg/L. Thus,considering the CLP Criteria for aquatic classification of the substance , it is concluded that α,α-bis[4-(dimethylamino)phenyl]-4-(phenylamino)naphthalene-1-methanol exhibit short term toxicity to Aquatic algae (Pseudokirchnerella subcapitata) in Chronic category 3
