Description of key information

α,α-bis[4-(dimethylamino)phenyl]-4-(phenylamino)naphthalene-1-methanol (Solvent Blue 4) was estimated to be 50% biodegradable in water in 180 days (half-life) indicating that α,α-bis[4-(dimethylamino)phenyl]-4-(phenylamino)naphthalene-1-methanol is not readily biodegradable in water since the half life exceeds the threshold of 60 days (to qualify the chemical as persistent). However, given the poor solubility of the chemical in water, its persistence in the water compartment may not be too critical.

Key value for chemical safety assessment

Biodegradation in water:
under test conditions no biodegradation observed
