Please be aware that this old REACH registration data factsheet is no longer maintained; it remains frozen as of 19th May 2023.

The new ECHA CHEM database has been released by ECHA, and it now contains all REACH registration data. There are more details on the transition of ECHA's published data to ECHA CHEM here.

Reference
Endpoint:
solubility in organic solvents / fat solubility
Type of information:
experimental study
Adequacy of study:
key study
Study period:
June 2019
Reliability:
2 (reliable with restrictions)
Rationale for reliability incl. deficiencies:
comparable to guideline study with acceptable restrictions
Qualifier:
no guideline followed
Principles of method if other than guideline:
This test was only performed to give an impression of the solubility of 2-SEM in different organic solvents. It does not raise the claim to determine exact solubility in g/L.
Three solvents were tested: Ethanol (polar protic), Acetonitrile (polar aprotic) and Hexane (non-polar).
100ml of the organic solvent were given in a beaker. Then 0.01g of the sample was added. The mixture was stirred at 20 +/- 0.5 °C for 20 minutes. If the sample had solved completely, additional 0.09g sample material were added and stirred at 20 +/- 0.5 °C for 20 minutes. If the sample had not solved completely the test was stopped.
In this way further 0.9g, 4.0g, then 5.0g, then 10g, 20g and at least 60g sample material were added and checked for solubility.
GLP compliance:
no
Other quality assurance:
other: ISO 9001:2008

Conclusions:
Based on the definition in the European Pharmacopoeia 2-Sulfoethyl Methacrylate (2-SEM) is infinitely soluble in Acetonitrile, infinitely soluble in Ethanol and very poorly soluble on the verge of insolubility in Hexane.
