- Source: The clone of Daphnia magna STRAUS used was supplied by the Institut National de Recherche Chimique Appliquée, France, in 1978.
From this date on this clone was cultured and bred continuously in the Laboratory of Ecotoxicology of the Experimental Toxicology and Ecology of BASF SE in Ludwigshafen.

The toxicity was significantly reduced compared to the not-neutralised test solutions, e.g. 45% of the daphnids were immobilised after 48 h in the neutralised test solution fo 50 mg/L compared to only 90% in the not-neutralised solution of 50 mg/L (100 mg/L: neutralised: 80% immobilised after 48 h; not-neutralised: 100% after 3 h).
