Endpoint:
auto-flammability
Type of information:
experimental study
Adequacy of study:
key study
Study period:
2014-09-22 to 2014-09-24
Reliability:
1 (reliable without restriction)
Rationale for reliability incl. deficiencies:
other: The study was performed in accordance with a standard test protocol (EU A.15) in a quality controlled laboratory. The study is valid according to criteria mentioned in the test protocol.
Qualifier:
according to guideline
Guideline:
EU Method A.15 (Auto-Ignition Temperature (Liquids and Gases))
Deviations:
no
GLP compliance:
yes (incl. QA statement)
Auto-ignition temperature:
240 °C

The auto ignition temperature corresponds to the lowest value of three experiments, rounded down to a whole multiple of 5 °C. Therefore, the auto ignition temperature of nicotine is stated as 240 °C.

Conclusions:
The study was conducted according to procedure and demands of EU method A.15 and DIN 51794. The acceptable range as stated in the DIN standard was fulfilled.
All measured values show good correlation. No observations were made which might cause doubts concerning the validity of the study outcome.
Executive summary:

The auto ignition temperature was determined in three independent experiments. The lowest measured value corresponds to 241 °C.

Therefore, the auto ignition temperature of nicotine according to EU method A.15 (rounded down to a whole multiple of 5 °C) is stated as 240 °C.
