Study design
- Details on sampling:
- Water samples were collected at 4 stations located in the central Venice lagoon. The sampling sites were selected according to known major potential sources of endocrine disrupting compounds.
Station 1 (Isola delle Tresse) is affected by the treated industrial effluents from the nearby industrial district of Porto Marghera and by the effluent of a municipal mechanical-biological stp
Station 2 ((S. Nicolo) and Station 3 (Celestia) receive municipal untreated sewage from Lido island and the historical centre of Venice, respectively
Station 4 (S. Erasmo) located near the sea inlet, was assumed to be little affected by direct discharges and thus chosen as environmental background site.
Grab water samples were collected during 10 subsequent sampling sessions from October 2001 to October 2002
1000 mL water samples were extracted by SPE on a C-18 column and analyzed by HPLC/ESI-MS.
