- Because it is known that the test substance is hardly soluble in water, no preliminary test was conducted. According to the guideline for low solubility chemicals the column elution method should be applied. Due to the very low solubility of the test item in organic solvents, this test could not be performed. Instead the flask solubility test was conducted.
Due to the known low water solubility of the test substance concentration determination for the complete test item was not possible.
In the flask test solubility concentrations for the cationic residues (barium, strontium, europium) were measured by ICP OES from the water extracts of the test item. For each test, the concentration of a blank item was measured. The resulting value for the blank items were smaller than 0.05 mg/L which corresponds to the detection limit. - Conclusions:
- Due to low solubility concentration of test item could not be determined. Instead solubilities of the cationic ingredients were determined.
The cationic ingredients (barium and strontium) of the test item are moderately soluble. The europium cationic residue is insoluble. - Endpoint:

- In a preliminary test 3,5 mg of the test substance were put into 500ml of water by roomtemperature and stirred for 24 hours. The test substance did not dissolve (visual examination), but it changed its colour from yellow to white. According to the guideline for low solubility chemicals the column elution method should be applied. Due to the very low solubility of the test item in organic solvents, this test could not be performed. Instead the flask test solubility could be conducted measuring concentrations of the cationic residues (barium, strontium, europium) from the water extracts by ICP OES. Due to the low solubility of the test substance in the flask test, its concentrations were not measured. Furthermore concentration of blank items were measured. Determined concentrations of the blank items were < 0.05 mg/L which is the detection limit.

Description of key information
The test item has low solubility. Cationic ingredients like barium and strontium dissolve in water.They are moderately soluble. The cationic ingredient europium is not soluble in water. This result is confirmed by the supporting studies showing low to moderate solubility of cationic ingredients. Again, europium does not dissolve in water.
