- Decomposition:
- no
- Conclusions:
- The substance has a melting point of 45.4 °C at atmospheric pressure.
- Executive summary:
A study was conducted according to Regulation (EC) No 440/2008 method A.1. The melting point of the test item was determined by the capillary method. As a resut of the test, the melting point of the test item is 45.4 °C at atmospheric pressure.
Reference
Transmission calibration:
A transmission calibration was performed prior to the melting point measurement.
Pre-test:
The heating rate for determining the melting range was 10 °C/min. The mean value from the automatically measured melting points was used for defining the set and max points.
Main test:
The substance was ground and filled into 3 separate capillary tubes. The filling height was between 4 to 5 mm and the heating rate set to 0.5 °C/min. For the main test, the setpoint was set to 40 °C and the maxpoint to 50 °C.
Table 1. Measured melting points of the test item (2nd main test):
Melting points in °C | Mean value | Standard deviation in °C
Position 1 (left) | Position 2 (middle) | Position 3 (ríght) | Actual value | Target value
45.4 | 45.4 | 45.5 | 45.4 | +/- 0.06 | <= +/- 0.3 |
Verification of the test item measurement was performed with the two reference substances 4-acetylbenzonitrile (melting point 58.1 °C) and m-toluic acid (melting point 112.2 °C). With these two substances the main test was repeated and the results recorded.
Description of key information
A study was conducted according to Regulation (EC) No 440/2008 method A.1. The melting point of the test item was determined by the capillary method. As a result of the test, the melting point of the test item is 45.4 °C at atmospheric pressure.
Key value for chemical safety assessment
- Melting / freezing point at 101 325 Pa:
