First-aid measures
Emergency measure - Eyes: Rinse immediately with plenty of water for at least 15
minutes.
Emergency measure - Skin: Wash contact area thoroughly with soap and water.
Emergency measure - Ingestion: Wash out mouth with plenty of water. Symptomatic treatment.

apparatus must be worn.

Accidental release measures
Wear eye protection, chemical-resistant gloves, protective
clothing and a dust mask capable of adequately controlling
exposure. EN149 PPF 1 is recommended. Avoid dust formation.
Adsorb spillages of solutions with a suitable inert material
(e.g. sand or soil). Carefully transfer the spillage to
waste containers, or use an approved sealed industrial
vacuum MACHINE: Containers filled with waste material must
be labelled in the same way as the original dibenzyl oxalate
containers.
Clean spillage area with detergent and water.
Dispose of waste material in accordance with local
regulations by landfill or incineration, as specified in
section A 6.1.3.
Handling and storage
conditions of good industral hygiene and in conformity with
any local regulations in order to avoid exposure.
Engineering controls are necessary to reduce exposure to the
substance. When exposure cannot be prevented or adequately
controlled other than by the use of personal protective
equipment, eye protection should be worn and skin contact
prevented by using chemical-resistant gloves and protective
clothing. Furthermore, when respiratory protective equipment
has to be used, it must be capable of adequately controlling
exposure, be suitable for the purpose and conform to the
appropriate international standards. A dust mask complying
with ERN149, FFP Grade 1 is recommended.
Storage: Store in a tightly closed container below 40°C. Keep
separate from ignition sources, alkaline and oxidising
materials.

Chemical reaction with water: Rapid hydrolysis occurs on reaction with water.
Disposal considerations
confined to systems that are essentially open and batchwise
industrial operations. Handling of the substance will be by
trained operators, and it will be kept to a minimum.
Discharge to the environment will be minimal. Recovery from
minor spillages or accidental discharge is not economocally
or technically feasible, and such waste material will be
disposed of by incineration or landfill in accordance with
Section A.6.1.3. In principle, it may bed possible to
recover larger spillages of uncontaminated material for
subsequent use.
Industry - Possibility of neutralisation: No health hazard has been identified from the Base Set
tests, and no chemical treatment is necessary or
practicable. However, adequate protection would be worn
during normal handling and when dealing with spillages to
ensure any unidentified or long term health hazard is
minimised (see Section A.2.3.1.).
Industry - Possibility of destruction: controlled discharge: Contaminated containers, waste material or spillages of
solutions mixed with inert material (e.g. sand or soil) may
be disposed of by landfill at an authorised tip in
accordance with local regulations.
Industry - Possibility of destruction - incineration: The substance can be disposed of by incineration by burning
under controlled conditions at a licensed waste treatment
processor in accordance with local regulations. Stack gases
should be scrubbed, because noxious fumes (e.g. carbon
oxides) could be formed.
Industry - Possibility of destruction - water purification: The substance should not normally be discharged to the
sewage system or the aqueous environment. Furthermore, the
substance is not likely to have adverse effects on sewage
treatment systems following accidential discharge, because
it has been shown to be prone to rapid abiotic degradation
via hydrolysis.
Industry - Possibility of destruction - other: not applicable.
Public at large - Possibility of recovery/recycling: Not applicable.
