Description of key information
The inhibition of the degradation activity of activated sludge is not anticipated when introduced in appropriate low concentrations.
Key value for chemical safety assessment
Additional information
There are no studies available that assess the acute toxicity of the test substance to microorganisms. However, as the test substance belongs to the substance group of Phthalocyanines whose group members resemble in their chemical structure as well as in their phys-chem properties, a read-across approach was used to cover this endpoint.
Phtalocyanines were proofed to be not toxic to microorganisms by several studies. The changes in the respiration rate of activated sludge in presence of CAS 59160-79-1 were investigated in a GLP study according to OECD guideline 209 [BASF AG 1999]. At test termination after 30 minutes an EC20 > 1000 mg/L (nominal) was determined.
The effect of the Phthalocyanines CAS 147-14-8 on the respiration rate of activated, domestic sludge were tested by a test following ISO 8192 [BASF AG 1988]. An EC20 of ca. 750 mg/l was determined after 30 min.
