Please be aware that this old REACH registration data factsheet is no longer maintained; it remains frozen as of 19th May 2023.

The new ECHA CHEM database has been released by ECHA, and it now contains all REACH registration data. There are more details on the transition of ECHA's published data to ECHA CHEM here.

Description of key information

Based on HF / KF data in one hand and NH4Cl data in the other hand, NH4F will rapidly dissociate in water at environmentally relevant pH to form ammonia (NH3, NH4+) compounds and fluoride ions.

Key value for chemical safety assessment

Additional information

In accordance with Annex VIII, column 2 a study does not need to be conducted as the substance is readily ionised under aqueous conditions. Ammonium fluoride in an aqueous environment will form fluoride and ammonium ions. The fluoride ions will combine to form various inorganic fluoride salts and organic complexes and ammonia (NH3 or NH4+) will easily be mineralized into nitrite ions (NO2-) by numerous bacteria.
