Study design

Oxygen conditions:
aerobic
Inoculum or test system:
sewage, domestic, non-adapted
Details on inoculum:
The inoculum was derived from secondary effluent of a Sewage Treatment Plant. The inoculum was aerated and preconditioned for a period of 5 days at the temperature of 20°C. 1 ml per litre of the mineral medium was used to find out the optimum volume of the given effluent.

Results and discussion

% Degradation
Parameter:
% degradation (O2 consumption)
Value:
91.67
Sampling time:
28 d
Details on results:
Percentage Biodegradability of ‘Diisooctyl Succinate (SustOleo™ DCS)’ was found to be 16.75, 38.64, 77.60 and 91.67% at day 7, 14, 21 and 28, respectively, however Percentage Biodegradability of Reference item ‘Canola oil’ ’ was 92.0, 124.6, 127.2 and 119.8% on day 7, 14, 21 and 28, respectively. The viability of the inoculum and validity of the test were supported by the reference item canola oil, which degraded approximately 119.8 %. An average percent biodegradation of greater than 60% was achieved by day 7, thereby fulfilling the criteria for a valid test .
