- Pour C. Daphnia, IC50 comprise entre 0.72 et 4 mg/L suivant les propriétés de l'eau.
- Executive summary:
Le lithium (Li) est le métal le plus léger et se trouve principalement dans les minéraux et les sels stables.Les concentrations de Li dans les eaux de surface sont généralement <0,04 mg l-1, mais peuvent être élevées dans les cours d'eau contaminés.En raison du manque général d'information concernant la toxicité de Li aux organismes d'essai de toxicité courants, nous avons évalué la toxicité de Li pour Pimephales promelas (tête-de-boule), Ceriodaphnia dubia et un escargot d'eau douce (Elimia clavaeformis).En laboratoire, la concentration de Li inhibant la croissance de P. promelas ou la reproduction de C. dubia de 25% (IC25) dépendait de l'eau de dilution.Dans l'eau de contrôle de laboratoire contenant peu de sodium (~ 2,8 mg l-1), les IC25 étaient de 0,38 et 0,32 mg Li-1 et dans l'eau ambiante contenant ~17 mg Na-1, les IC25 étaient respectivement de 1,99 et 3,33.Une concentration de Li de 0,15 mg l-1 a inhibé l'alimentation d'E. Clavaeformis dans des tests de laboratoire.Des essais de toxicité ont été menés pour évaluer l'effet du sodium sur la toxicité de Li chez des têtes-de-boule et C. dubia.La présence de sodium a grandement affecté la toxicité de Li.Les têtes-de-boule et Ceriodaphnia, par exemple, toléraient des concentrations de Li aussi élevées que 6 mg l-1 lorsqu'une quantité suffisante de Na était présente.L'interaction de Li et Na sur la reproduction de Ceriodaphnia a été étudiée en profondeur et peut être décrite en utilisant un modèle exponentiel.Le modèle prédit que la reproduction de C. dubia ne serait pas affectée lorsque les animaux sont exposés à des combinaisons de lithium et de sodium avec un rapport logarithmique de mmol Na à mmol Li égal à au moins 1,63.Les résultats de cette étude indiquent que pour la plupart des eaux naturelles, la présence de sodium est suffisante pour prévenir la toxicité de Li.Cependant, dans les zones d'élimination historique ou de traitement ou d'utilisation intensive, une évaluation de Li du point de vue de la qualité de l'eau serait justifiée.
