Description of key information

Under test conditions, no significant inhibitory effect on the growth rate and on the yield of Pseudokirchneriella subcapitata has been observed at the maximum achievable solubility of 1,1-di(tert-amylperoxy)cyclohexane in isododecane.

Key value for chemical safety assessment

Additional information

The acute toxicity of 1,1-di(tert-amylperoxy)cyclohexane in isododecane to freshwater algae was tested using OECD guideline 201 under GLP conditions (Chastenet, 2017).

The study was designed to determine the effects of the test item on the growth of Pseudokirchneriella subcapitata in a static 72 -hour test.

As the test item is in presence of isododecane, test solutions were prepared from dilutions of a saturated solution prepared using slow-stirring conditions described in the OECD 123 guideline.

Chemical analysis of the test item showed the instability of the substance over the 72-hour test period. The concentrations of the test substance in fresh saturated stock solutions (i.e. 100% v/v) were all found to be consistently close to the water solubility limit of the test material.

Under the test conditions, no significant inhibitory effect on the growth rate and on the yield of the algae after the test period of 72 hours has been observed at the maximum achievable solubility of the test item in test medium.

The definitive test met all the validity criteria of the test guideline.

In addition, an OECD TG 201 has been carried out for an analogous substance, 1,1 -bis(tert-butylperoxy)cyclohexane. As observed for

1,1-di(tert-amylperoxy)cyclohexane, no significant effect on algal growth up to the limit of solubility of the test item has been observed under the experimental conditions.
