Please be aware that this old REACH registration data factsheet is no longer maintained; it remains frozen as of 19th May 2023.

The new ECHA CHEM database has been released by ECHA, and it now contains all REACH registration data. There are more details on the transition of ECHA's published data to ECHA CHEM here.

Additional information

Except for acute inhalation toxicity only very restricted information is available in rats and rabbits for the acute toxicity of Diketene. The lowest oral LD50determined was 540 mg/kg bw rats. The LC50 (4-hour) for Diketene for male rats as most sensitive species was established at 0.82 mg /L and in two unreliable publications a dermal LD50 of 3100 mg/kg bw/d in rabbits is reported. All results are shown in the “Short description of key information” field

Justification for classification or non-classification

Due to the findings described above (LD50 oral in rats 540 mg/kg bw, LC50 inhalation in male rats 0.82 mg/L and LD50 dermal in rabbits 3100 mg/kg bw/d) Diketene has to be classified as

- acute orally toxic: Xn, R22 - harmful if swallowed; Hazard category 4, H302 - harmful if swallowed

- toxic by inhalation: T, R23 - toxic by inhalation; Hazard category 2, H330 - fatal if inhaled

according to the criteria laid down in the EU Dangerous Substances Directive (67/548/EEC) and in the EU Classification Labelling and Packaging Regulation (1272/2008/EC).
