Results and discussion

Flammable solids
Test procedure:
burning rate test over 100 mm length
Burning time:
26 s

Any other information on results incl. tables

The test item is known to sustain combustion therefore the preliminary test had to be performed.

Preliminary test

The burning time over a distance of 200 mm was 56s.

This was below the threshold of the burning time of 2 min for other than metal powders.

Therefore the main test had to be performed.

Main Test

In the main test the burning time over a distance of 100 mm after a pre-burning distance of 80 mm was measured three times. The lowest burning time over a distance of 100 mm was 26 s. The combustion could be stopped by a wetting zone. The results of the test are summarized in the table below.

Due to the fact pure water drains of the pile when preparing the wetting zone, 1 wt.-% of a wetting agent (Triton X-100 pro Analysis (Merck; 1.08603.1000)) was used.

Table 1: Results of the main test of the burning rate

Test                        burning time / s                         Stopped by wetting?

1                             28                                        Yes

2                              26                                         Yes

3                              27                                        Yes

Applicant's summary and conclusion

Interpretation of results:
Category 2 (flammable solids) based on GHS criteria
Conclusions:
The test item is to be classified as a flammable solid, category 2 according to regulation (EC) 1272/2008
Executive summary:

The flammability of the test substance was determined according to EU A.10 and UN transport regulations Div. 4.1 Test N.1.

The preliminary and the main test were performed. The test item shows a burning time of 26 s for a burning distance of 100 mm. A wetted zone stopped the fire and the substance has therefore to be classified as flammable solid, category 2.
