Please be aware that this old REACH registration data factsheet is no longer maintained; it remains frozen as of 19th May 2023.

The new ECHA CHEM database has been released by ECHA, and it now contains all REACH registration data. There are more details on the transition of ECHA's published data to ECHA CHEM here.

Description of key information

Phototransformation in air is not relevant due to low vapour pressure (< 0.0001 Pa).

Key value for chemical safety assessment

Additional information

Experimental results regarding phototransformation of Fatty acids, tall oil, esters with dipentaerythritol (CAS 70913-98-3) are not available. A calculation using AOPWIN v1.92 indicates that the main components of the substance will be rapidly photodegraded by reaction with hydroxyl radicals (Kuckuck, 2013). The half-life estimated (based on 24 h day; OH-concentration: 0.5E+06 OH/cm³) for the C16 FA component and C18 FA component of Fatty acids, C16-18 and C18-unsatd, hexaesters with dipentaerythritol was 2.87 hours, whereas for the C18 FA unsat. component of the substance a half-life of 51.08 min for the trans-isomer was calculated (cis isomer: 46.4 minutes). Based on the calculations for the main components it can be concluded that the substance is susceptible to fast indirect photodegradation in air. However, evaporation of the substance to the atmosphere is unlikely due to the low vapour pressure of the substance (< 0.0001 Pa at 20 °C, SPARC v4.6) and therefore photodegradation is not a relevant pathway. As this study is not a standard information requirement in REACh and there is no indication from the Chemical Safety Assessment (CSA) that additional investigations on fate and behaviour of the substance are needed (Annex X requirement), no further testing is considered necessary for the substance.
