Please be aware that this old REACH registration data factsheet is no longer maintained; it remains frozen as of 19th May 2023.

The new ECHA CHEM database has been released by ECHA, and it now contains all REACH registration data. There are more details on the transition of ECHA's published data to ECHA CHEM here.

Endpoint:
flammability
Remarks:
Pyrophoric liquids/solids (migrated from section 'Flammability')
Type of information:
migrated information: read-across from supporting substance (structural analogue or surrogate)
Adequacy of study:
key study
Reliability:
1 (reliable without restriction)
Rationale for reliability incl. deficiencies:
other: Guideline study
Qualifier:
according to guideline
Guideline:
EU Method A.10 (Flammability (Solids))
Qualifier:
according to guideline
Guideline:
EU Method A.12 (Flammability (Contact with Water))
Qualifier:
according to guideline
Guideline:
EU Method A.13 (Pyrophoric Properties of Solids and Liquids)
GLP compliance:
yes (incl. QA statement)
Test procedure:
ignition time on contact with air
Remarks:
Ignition on contact with air refers to either Pyrophoric solids or Pyrophoric liquids depending on physical state (migrated information).
Remarks on result:
no ignition on contact with air (not further specified)
Remarks:
corresponding to 'no' in migrated source record.

The test substance did not ignite upon extended contact with the ignition source (ca. 2 minutes). After this period, a yellow brown melt remained.

The appraisal of the molecular structure indicates no risk with respect to pyrophoric properties or the potential of evolving flammable gases in contact with water or humid air. In addition, during the conduction of other tests (e.g. water solubility) the test item did not show any spontaneous ignition or formation of flammable gases.

Interpretation of results:
non flammable
Remarks:
Migrated information
Conclusions:
The test item did not ignite when exposed to an ignition source. The test item showed neither pyrophoric properties nor the potential to form flammable gases when in contact with water or humid air.
Executive summary:

The test item did not ignite when exposed to an ignition source. The test item showed neither pyrophoric properties nor the potential to form flammable gases when in contact with water or humid air.

Description of key information

study according to EU method A.10, A.12 and A.13, partially unsaturated IQACs, DMS quaternised did not ignite when exposed to an ignition source. Neither pyrophoric properties nor the potential to form flammable gases when in contact with water or humid air were observed, read-across

Key value for chemical safety assessment

Flammability:
not classified

Additional information

There are no data on flammability for the target substance hydrogenated tallow/nortallow based IQAC. Hoewever, there are data regarding flammability for the structurally similar substance partially unsaturated IQACs, DMS quaternised are available. The test item did not ignite when exposed to an ignition source. The test item showed neither pyrophoric properties nor the potential to form flammable gases when in contact with water or humid air.

Justification for classification or non-classification

Base on the available and reliable data the substance does not need to be classified as flammable according to Regulation (EC) No 1272/2008 (CLP) and the Globally Harmonized System for Classification and Labelling of Chemicals (GHS).
