Please be aware that this old REACH registration data factsheet is no longer maintained; it remains frozen as of 19th May 2023.

The new ECHA CHEM database has been released by ECHA, and it now contains all REACH registration data. There are more details on the transition of ECHA's published data to ECHA CHEM here.

Description of key information

Experimental results from algal growth inhibition studies for the monosodium salt of cyanuric acid, monohydrate freshwater algae and one study with marine algae using sodium cyanurate.

Key value for chemical safety assessment

EC50 for freshwater algae:
2 700 mg/L
EC10 or NOEC for freshwater algae:
1 250 mg/L
EC10 or NOEC for marine water algae:
100 mg/L

Additional information

Freshwater algae:

1. Experimental results obtained with the substance monosodium salt of cyanuric acid, monohydrate (72h-EbC50= 2700 mg/L, basis for effect: biomass; 96h-EbC50 > 5000 mg/L, basis for effect: biomass; 72h- ErC50 > 5000 mg/L, basis for effect: growth rate; 96h- ErC50 > 5000 mg/L, basis for effect: growth rate; 72h- NOEC = 1250 mg/L, basis for effect: growth rate; 96h- NOEC = 5000 mg/L, basis for effect: growth rate ).

Read-across: 2. Based on the experimental results obtained with the analogue cyanuric acid (96 h-EC50=712 mg/L, basis for effect: in vivo chlorophyll; and 96 h-EC50=655 mg/L,. basis for effect: cell number) and the molecular weights, the read-across approach is applied and the 96 h-EC50 for substance sodium cyanurate is calculated to be 839 mg/L (basis for effect: in vivo chlorofill) and 772 mg/L (basis for effect: cell number) (for Selenastrum capricornutum (new name: Pseudokirchnerella subcapitata)).

Marine algae:

1. Experimental results obtained with the substance monosodium salt of cyanuric acid (72h-EC50 > 100 mg/L and 72h-NOEC = 100 mg/L).
