Guidance on Safe Use
Administrative data
First-aid measures
General information:
In case of accident or if you feel unwell seek medical advice (show label or SDS where
possible).
After inhalation
Provide fresh air.
After contact with the skin
Wash with plenty of water or water and soap. In the event of a visible skin change or other
complaints, seek medical advice (show label or SDS where possible).
After contact with the eyes
Rinse immediately with plenty of water. Seek medical advice in case of continuous irritation.
After swallowing
Give several small portions of water to drink. Do not induce vomiting.
Fire-fighting measures
Suitable extinguishing media
extinguishing powder , alcohol-resistant foam , carbon dioxide .
Extinguishing media which must not be used for safety reasons
water , halones .
Special exposure hazards arising from the substance or preparation itself, combustion products,
resulting gases
Hazardous combustion products: carbon dioxide , carbon monoxide , silicon dioxide .
Special protective equipment for fire fighting
Use respiratory protection independent of recirculated air.
Accidental release measures
Personal precautions
Wear personal protection equipment (see section 8). Avoid contact with eyes and skin. Avoid
inhaling mists and vapours.
Environmental precautions
Prevent material from entering sewers or surface waters. Retain contaminated
water/extinguishing water. Contain any fluid that runs out using suitable material (e.g.
earth). Dispose of in prescribed marked containers.
Methods for cleaning up
Take up mechanically and dispose of according to local/state/federal regulations. Absorb with a
liquid binding material such as diatomaceous earth and dispose of according to
local/state/federal regulations.
Further information:
Eliminate all sources of ignition.
Handling and storage
Handling
Precautions for safe handling:
Ensure adequate ventilation.
Precautions against fire and explosion: Take precautionary measures against electrostatic charging. Cool endangered containers with
water. Product can separate methanol. Flammable vapors may accumulate and form explosive
mixtures with air in containers, process vessels, including partial, empty and uncleaned
containers and vessels, or other enclosed spaces. Keep away from open flames, heat and sparks.
Storage
Conditions for storage rooms and vessels:
Use seal-tight containers.
Advice for storage of incompatible materials: -
Further information for storage:
Store in original container only. Keep container dry and tightly closed. Store container in a
well ventilated place. Secure container against falling over.

Exposure controls / personal protection
Exposure limits
-
Exposure limited and controlled
Exposure in the work place limited and controlled
General protection and hygiene measures:
Avoid contact with eyes and skin. Do not eat, drink or smoke when handling. Do not inhale
gases/vapours/aerosols.
Personal protection equipment
Respiratory protection
In case of long or strong exposure: gas mask filter A .
Hand protection
Protective gloves made of butyl rubber . Gloves suitable for up to 60 minutes' use.
Eye protection
tight fitting protective goggles .
Skin protection
In case of long or strong exposure: apron .
Exposure to the environment limited and controlled
Prevent material from entering surface waters, drains or sewers and soil.
Further information for system design and engineering measures
Observe information in section Handling and Storage.
Stability and reactivity
General information:
If stored and handled in accordance with standard industrial practices no hazardous reactions
are known.
Conditions to avoid
Keep away from incompatible substances.
Materials to avoid
Reacts with: water , basic substances and acids . Reaction causes the formation of: methanol .
Hazardous decomposition products
If stored and handled in accordance with standard industrial practices and local regulations
where applicable: none known .
Disposal considerations
Material
Recommendation:
Dispose of according to regulations by incineration in a special waste incinerator. Observe
local/state/federal regulations.
Uncleaned packaging
Recommendation:
Completely discharge containers (no tear drops, no powder rest, scraped carefully). Containers
may be recycled or re-used. Observe local/state/federal regulations.
