Description of key information

Appearance/physical state/colour:

The substance is an odorless, colorless, crystalline powder at 20 °C and 1013 hPa.

Melting point:

No melting point was observed up to 400 °C. Colour changing was noted starting at 196°C indicating a possible decomposition. At 196°C, the colour of the test item changed from colourless from light-brown to dark-brown at 340°C.

Boiling point:

No boiling point could be observed up to 400 °C. The atmospheric pressure was 99.12 kPa.

Density:

The density was found to be 1.677 g/cm3 at 20 °C (relative density: 1.677).

Particle size:

No particles were observed having a size smaller than 75 um. 4.99% have a particle size of 75-212 um, 7.17% a size of 212-500 um, 68.4% a size of 500-1000 um and and 8.11% a size of > 1000 um.

Vapor pressure:

The vapour pressure was calculated to be 4.10 × 10-3 Pa at 20 °C.

Partition coefficient:

The logarithmic partition coefficient (n-octanol/water) log Pow of the test item was determined to be < - 5.31 at 20°C.

Water solubility:

The water solubility was determined to be 30.8 g/L at 20 °C.

Surface tension:

The surface tension of an aqueous solution of the test item (1 g/L) was determined to be 72.4 mN/m at 20 °C. Based on the results of this study, the test item does not need to be regarded as surface active material.

Flash point:

Waived; study does not need to be conducted because the flash point is only relevant to liquids and low mewlting point solids. The test item is a solid with high melting point.

Autoflammability:

No self-ignition observed up to 400°C, therefore the test item is considered to be not auto-flammable.

Flammability:

The test item could not be ignited and no smouldering was observed. Therefore, the test item has been determined to be not highly flammable.

Flammability - pyrophoric properties:

Waived; study does not need to be conducted because the substance is known to be stable in contact with air at room temperature for prolonged periods of time and hence, the classification procedure does not need to be applied.

Flammability - contact with water:

Waived; study does not need to be conducted because the experience in production or handling shows that the substance does not react with water.

Explosiveness

Waived; study does not need to be conducted because there are no chemical groups present in the molecule which are associated with explosive properties.

Oxidizing properties:

Waived; study does not need to be conducted because there are no chemical groups present in the molecule which are associated with oxidizing properties and hence, the classification procedure does not need to be applied. In addition, the substance is incapable of reacting exothermically with combustible materials.
