Administration / exposure

Route of administration:
other: intratracheal and inhalation
Duration of treatment / exposure:
1 to 6 months
Details on study design:
The experiment was performed in the brain agar on rats, the duration of the experiment was 1-6 months.

Results and discussion

Details on results:
With intratracheal administration of MoSi2, the activity of collagen formation is 50% by the 6th months of the experiment. When inhaled for 3 months at an average concentration of 215 mg/m³, the formation of collagen was 42.7%. The following morphological changes were noted in animals: peribronchitis, perivascular, focal pneumonia, hyperplasia of the lymph nodes. In the kidneys, degeneration of the epithelium of renal tubules was observed. The renal capsules contained the exudate of a protein type. In some animals, dystrophic changes in the myocardium occurred. At a concentration of MoSi2 of 7.7 mg/m³, only minor disturbances were detected.

Applicant's summary and conclusion

Executive summary:

In an experimental research study the intratracheal and inhalation effects of three substances (TiSi2, MoSi2, WSi2) were evaluated. The experiment was performed in the brain on rats. The duration of the experiment was 1-6 months. The MPC of the working area air for MoSi2 is proposed at the level of 4 mg/m³.
