Please be aware that this old REACH registration data factsheet is no longer maintained; it remains frozen as of 19th May 2023.

The new ECHA CHEM database has been released by ECHA, and it now contains all REACH registration data. There are more details on the transition of ECHA's published data to ECHA CHEM here.

Description of key information

No bioaccumulation is expected from the results obtained in fish.

Key value for chemical safety assessment

BCF (aquatic species):
3.8 L/kg ww

Additional information

Three experimental determinations of the bioconcentration factor BCF in 3 species of fish were reported (Lech 1984a, Lech 1984b, Nite 2010). The BCF was <1 in each case, except for the Nite study with the lower concentration of 0.2 ppm in water, where the BCF was 3.8. This BCF value is therefore taken as key value.

An older and less reliable estimation (ECETOC 1983) of the BCF, based on the water solubility of melamine, yielded BCF = 15.
