Additional information

For the assessment the biodegradation potential of N,N-dimethylacetamide (CAS 127-19-5) there are experimental data from three studies available:

 

- In a GLP-compliant modified MITI I test conducted equivalent to OECD TG 301C, using non-adapted domestic and industrial activated sludge as inoculum, biodegradation was found to be 70% after 28 days (based on O2-consumption); the ten-day window was not met in this study (Biffi, 1995; cited in SIDS 2001). However, as the 10-day window concept does not apply to the MITI methods according to OECD TG 301 (adopted in July 1992) the substance was experimentally found to be readily biodegradable according to OECD criteria. These data were selected as key data in terms of the chemical safety assessment.

 

- In a supporting study conducted equivalent to OECD 302C using activated sludge as inoculum (unspecified sort and adaptation of sludge), the substance was found to be inherently biodegradable as 77 to 83% was removed after 14 days (based on O2 consumption; CITI, 1992; cited in SIDS, 2001)).

 

- In a further supporting study conducted equivalent to OECD 302B with non-adapted industrial activated sludge, 97% of the substance were degraded after 5 days (based on DOC removal) indicating N,N-dimethylacetamide to be easily eliminated from water.

 

In conclusion, N,N-dimethylacetamide (CAS 127-19-5) is assessed to be readily biodegradable according to OECD criteria
