Diethyl sulphate induced various chromosomal abnormalities. Pycnosis and disintegration of nuclei in few to almost all the nuclei treated with lower concentrations was noticed. Many cells in all concentrations showed intranuclear clumping of chromatin material.Chromosomes breakage was also noticed at metakinesis stage in 0.1% concentration. Clumping and stickiness of chromosomes were observed along with sticky metaphase bridges. Other chromosomal observations observed were breakage in the form of fragmentsand laggards, bridges and disturbed anaphases and stickly telophase bridges.

Executive summary:

The algal material selected for this test was Cladophora crispata (Roth) Kuetz. Diethyl sulphate were tried in various percentage concentrations (0.0001, 0.001, 0.01 and 0.1) for duration of 1, 2 and 4 hours for a period of three weeks. Observations were recorded with reference to survival percentage, dry weight, chlorophyll content, morphological and cytological variations. Diethyl sulphate induced various chromosomal abnormalities.
