Description of key information

The available information was not considered sufficient for covering the endpoint. However, this Annex X endpoint is not mandatory. Moreover, supporting information indicates no carcinogenic effect at drinking water dose levels of 5 ppm Zr in life-time studies with rats and mice.

Justification for classification or non-classification

Additional information

Three supporting studies were identified (Schroeder et al., 1968; Kanisawa and Schroeder, 1969; Schroeder et al., 1970). These studies were not considered reliable but give however an indication that zirconium, administered to rats or mice as zirconium sulfate via drinking water (single dose of 5 ppm Zr) is not carcinogenic.

The information was not considered sufficient to cover this endpoint, however, since carcinogenicity is an Annex X endpoint it is not mandatory for the current dossier.
