The biodegradability of e-Caprolactone was determined in a Modified Sturm test, using CO2evolution as the parameter for measurement. The test substance can be classified as readily biodegradable at a concentration of 10 mg/L. At a concentration of 20 mg/L the test substance cannot be classified as readily biodegradable as only 58% biodegradation occured after 28 days, however, the test substance can be considered as inherently biodegradable at the pass criteria were almost fulfilled.

In accordance with REACH Annex IX column 2, simulation testing in water and/or sediment and in soil do not need to be conducted as the substance is readily biodegradable.
