Description of key information

Hydrolysis as a function of pH was successfully determined for e-Caprolactone, according to the methods described in OECD 111. The half life of e-Caprolactone in sterile aqueous solution (ca 1 g/L) was 15.7, 52.5 and 2.2 days at pH values of 4, 7 and 9, respectively. At all pH values the hydrolysis product was 6 -hydroxyhexanoic acid which was stable to any further hydrolysis.
