PBT assessment: overall result

PBT status:
the substance is not PBT / vPvB
Justification:

According to the ECHA guidance on PBT/vPvB assessment (version 3.0, 2017), n-Butyltin trichloride is regarded as being persistent (P) and/or very persistent, not bioaccumulative (B) or very bioaccumulative (vB) and toxic (T). As the B criterion is not fulfilled, n-Butyltin trichloride is therefore not a PBT or vPvB substance.

Persistence Assessment

It has been determined that the substance is not readily biodegradable and recent data now confirms it to be hydrolytically stable. The substance is regarded as being P and vP.

Bioaccumulation Assessment

Based on the measured log BCF values (ranging from 0.3 to 2.1 in carp), the substance does not fulfill the B or vB criteria.

Toxicity Assessment

N-Butyltin trichloride meets the toxicity criterion as the substance containing <0.5% DBTC is classified as Repr. 1B/H360 and the substance containing 1-3% DBTC is classified as Repr. 1B/H360 and STOT RE 2/H373.
