Please be aware that this old REACH registration data factsheet is no longer maintained; it remains frozen as of 19th May 2023.

The new ECHA CHEM database has been released by ECHA, and it now contains all REACH registration data. There are more details on the transition of ECHA's published data to ECHA CHEM here.

Additional information

A reliable study is available in which the bacteria P.putida was exposed to 2 -(2 -methoxyethoxy)ethanol for 17 hours at concentrations up to 10,000mg/l without any inhibition of growth (determined by optical density measurement). This study is considered the most appropriate to use to derive the key parameter. It is supported by two other studies in a weight of evidence approach, both of which used activated sludge respiration inhibition as the end point. Both established no effects at the maximum tested concentrations of 1000 and 1995mg/l respectively. A further study with P. fluorescens did not establish an EC50 up to the maximum tested dose of 100mg/l. All of these studies are supportive of the choice of key parameter. All tests are also in line with the results of the biodegradation studies and the concentrations used in these (see chapter 5.2.1) From the available data, it can be concluded that this substance causes no acute adverse effects to micro-organisms up to concentrations of 10g/l or more.
