DecaBDE is expected to partition in the environment to air (0.05%), water (0.6%), soil (50), and sediment (49.5%). Over 99% of DecaBDE in the environment is expected to reside in soil and sediment. DecaBDE is expected to be highly particle bound in all media. DecaBDE is expected to be persistent in the environment. Nearly all of DecaBDE in a sewage treatment plant influent is expected to be removed during passage through the plant by settling to sludge. Sludge-applied to agricultural soils is not expected to result in significant exposure to humans or other life forms.
