Additional information

The acute aquatic toxicity of 2,2,4,4-tetramethyl-1,3-cyclobutanediol (TMCD) was evaluated using invertebrates (fish), vertebrates (daphnia), plants (aquatic algae), and wastewater treatment microorganisms. All of the aquatic toxicity tests were conducted according to OECD guidelines under GLP. No effects were observed in the tests with fish, daphnia and algae at mean measured concentration 106 mg/L. The inhibition of respiration in wastewater treatment microoganisms was measured over a 3 hour period. In that study the highest concentration tested, 1000 mg/L, was not inhibitory to the microorganisms (NOEC≥ 1000 mg/L). Adequate information on the aquatic toxicity hazard of TMCD has been provided with the acute studies, therefore long-term studies with fish and daphnia are not proposed.
