Conclusion on classification
Results for C16MES - short term: Results for C18MES - short term:
Fish: LC50 = 1.5 mg/L Fish: LC50 = 0.44 mg/L
Daphnia EC50 = 1.24 mg/L Daphnia EC50 = 0.252 mg/L - 0.373 mg/L
Algae EC50 > 10 mg/L and NOEC >= 10 Algae EC50 > 0.8 mg/L and NOEC >= 0.8 mg/L
Results for C16MES - long term: Results for C18MES - long term
Daphnia NOEC = 0.24 mg/L Daphnia NOEC = 0.23 mg/L
Acute toxicity
The substance C16MES has acute aquatic toxicity above 1 mg/L. This means that this substance is not falling into any category for acute aquatic hazard.
The substance C18MES has acute aquatic toxicity below 1 mg/L. This means that this substance has to be classified into the category 1 of Acute aquatic hazard according to CLP.
The reaction mass of C16MES and C18MES:
For the legal entity composition, the reaction mass of the two substances contains less than 25% C18MES. Based on the CLP classification of mixtures, the reaction mass does not require a label for Acute Toxicity Category 1.
For the Boundary composition, the reaction mass of the two substances contains less than 40% C18MES. Based on the CLP classification of mixtures, the reaction mass might need a label for Acute Toxicity Category 1 if the reaction mass contains > 25% C18MES.
Long-term hazard
Based on the results of the long-term Daphnia for C16MES (0.24 mg/L) and C18MES (0.23 mg/L), both components need to be classified as Category Chronic 3 according to the second ATP amendment to the CLP Regulation.
Therefore, also the reaction mass of the two components needs to be classified for long-term aquatic hazard as Chronic 3 with hazard statement: H412: Harmful to aquatic life with long lasting effects.
