Please be aware that this old REACH registration data factsheet is no longer maintained; it remains frozen as of 19th May 2023.

The new ECHA CHEM database has been released by ECHA, and it now contains all REACH registration data. There are more details on the transition of ECHA's published data to ECHA CHEM here.

Description of key information

The inhibition of the degradation activity of activated sludge is not anticipated when introduced to biological treatment plants in appropriate low concentrations.

Key value for chemical safety assessment

Additional information

The toxicity of the substance was determined in a non-GLP activated sludge respiration inhibition test according to OECD guideline 209. In this study, activated sludge of a communal sewage treatment plant was exposed to nominal concentrations of 1, 10 and 100 mg/L and a blank control for 3 hours. No analytical verification of nominal concentrations was performed. After the exposure period oxygen consumption rates were measured using an oxygen electrode and the percentage inhibition of the oxygen consumption was estimated by comparison of the rate with that of a control mixture containing no test material (blank control). After 3 hours exposure, inhibition of oxygen consumption rate did not exceed 4.43%. Based on these findings, both the 3-h EC50 and EC20 values were determined at >100 mg/L.
