First-aid measures
INHALATION Remove patient from the polluted area and lead to fresh air. If breathing is difficult, have qualified personnel administer oxygen. If the patient is not breathing, have qualified personnel perform artificial respiration . If the patient is unconscious, provide assisted respiration (oxygen therapy). If symptoms appear, provide hospitalisation under observation.
CONTACT WITH EYES
In case of contact with eyes, rinse abundantly with running water or with an isotonic saline solution, with eyelid open, for at least 15 minutes.
CONTACT WITH SKIN
Wash the affected area thoroughly and abundantly with soap and water. Remove contaminated clothing.
INGESTION
DO NOT INDUCE VOMITING. The product is not soluble. DO NOT ADMINISTER LIQUIDS. If the patient vomits spontaneously, in order to prevent suffocation, position the head in between the knees. Qualified personnel can perform a gastric lavage only after having aspirated the airways (TRACHEA)
If the patient is conscious and alert, allow the patient to drink water in abundance (200-300 ml) or 2-4 glasses of milk(A) , or administer by mouth as a dilutant 200ml (adult), 50ml (children) a suspension of activated carbon in water (10g/100ml). Induce vomiting.
If the patient is conscious or is experiencing convulsions, do not administer anything by mouth, do not induce vomiting, and keep the patient warm while awaiting medical assistance.

Suitable extinguishing agents
CO2, foam, powder. In case of large fire reduce fumes with water spray.

Direct stream of water on product.

Development of toxic and irritating fumes (HCl and HF).
-Recommendations for fire-fighting personnel
Remove all people not essential to the task at hand. Allow only well trained persons who are informed on the product’s hazards to intervene. In all cases make use of an auto-respirator. In case of intervention in close proximity, wear anti-acid overalls providing total protection. Cut off power to pumps and motors, and eliminate all sources of ignition. If possible, remove recipients exposed to heat, otherwise cool them down with abundant water. Electrostatic charges can be produced during the product’s handling; provide grounding for equipment.
Accidental release measures

Remove non-trained personnel. Intervene wearing PPE .
Eliminate all sources of ignition.
- Environmental precautions
Contain spillage and prevent the product from entering sewers and waterways.
Control or stop the dispersion of the volatile material into the atmosphere. Large scale leaking of the product can require environmental interventions and the possibility of evacuating the area. Do not pour water onto a leak. In case of spillage or release notify the authorities.
Avoid spilling. Collect the product and any clean-up equipment into containers and confined areas. Mechanically collect and introduce into suitable containers which are labelled and sealed.
- Containment and clean-up methods and materials
In case of significant spillage, evacuate the area. In case of hazardous exposure, intervene using self contained breathing apparatus and overalls providing complete protection; cut off power and protect from ignition. Contain spreading and prevent the product from entering sewers and waterways.
Collect with sand, soil. or inert absorbent material (bentonite, vermiculite).
Handling and storage
-Precautionary measures for safe handling
Prevent inhalation of vapours, provide suitable ventilation. Use an auto-respirator if exposure limits may be exceeded.
Avoid contact with eyes, skin and work clothes.
Carefully wash hands with soap and water after handling the product.
Wear PPE.
Do not eat, drink or smoke in the area in which the product is used..
Keep away from sources of heat, sparks and flames, and avoid work involving welding, drilling, grinding and pressurising.
Provide adequate grounding.
Vapours are heavier than air and tend to deposit downwards. Avoid use in confined spaces. Poorly aerated areas can favour the formation of hazardous concentrations which can cause unconsciousness and death. Do not reuse containers.
Avoid contact or inhalation of vapours

In the presence of fumes, use a face mask with a filter for organic substances.
Keep away from heat sources of ignition and oxidising agents.
- Conditions for safe storage, including incompatibilities
Store in hermetically sealed, correctly labelled containers. Store away from incompatible materials.

Keep the product closed, in fresh, well ventilated locations. Provide a waterproof, anti-corrosion electrical installation. Inform personnel of the product’s hazards. Install emergency showers in the vicinity of storage areas. Handle containers wearing anti-acid overalls and boots, gloves, a helmet and visor. Do not keep the product in pipe sections and/or circuits demarcated between two closed valves or in recipients not equipped with safety air vents.
