Additional information

Data on the long-term toxicity to aquatic invertebrates is available for the KBF4 chemical analogue NaBF4. In this study, Daphnia magna were exposed to NaBF4 concentrations of 0, 188, 375, 750, 1500 and 3000 mg/L for 21 days. The chronic effects on number of first-brood neonates, total number of neonates, and average brood size was examined. Each experiment was terminated either when all control females completed their third brood or at 21 d.

Total number of neonates (F5,46 > 18.32, p > 0.01), first-brood neonates (F5,46 > 3.33, p > 0.01), and average brood size (F5,46 > 18.32, p > 0.01) differed between controls and some of the higher concentrations of NaBF4 and NaBF4, with each trait generally declining with increasing concentration. The 21 -d NOEC for reproduction is 188 mg/L.
