Additional information

Data regarding the environmental fate and pathway of titanium carbide (TiC) are not available. The assessment is thus based on other titanium compounds like TiO2 and Ti metal in a read-across approach.

Terrestrial and aquatic data of titanium compounds indicate a low potential for bioaccumulation.

In addition, no release of Ti from TiC could be detected in the T/D test (OECD). The method detection limit was 0.4 µg/L. Thus, the exposure of aquatic and terrestrial species via soluble Ti ions released from TiC is not expected to occur in the environment.

Based on the available data for titanium, titanium compounds like titanium carbide are expected to have a very low mobility in soil.
