Please be aware that this old REACH registration data factsheet is no longer maintained; it remains frozen as of 19th May 2023.

The new ECHA CHEM database has been released by ECHA, and it now contains all REACH registration data. There are more details on the transition of ECHA's published data to ECHA CHEM here.

Description of key information

Based on data for the structural analoge acrylic acid, sodium acrylate has a low ability to bind to soil or sediment particles. Distribution modelling showed that the substance will distribute mainly to water. In addition it is readily biodegradbale. Therefore, no study on sediment toxicity needs to be conducted.

Additional information

No information concerning effects on sediment-organisms for sodium acrylate are available. Nevertheless, since the substance is not bioaccumulative (log Pow = -3.37), a considerable exposure of sediment organisms is not expected. Furthermore, sodium acrylate shows low to moderate potential of adsorption to solid particles. Hence, information about effects on sediment organisms is not required and the equilibrium partitioning method has been used for assessing the hazard to sediment organisms.
