Please be aware that this old REACH registration data factsheet is no longer maintained; it remains frozen as of 19th May 2023.

The new ECHA CHEM database has been released by ECHA, and it now contains all REACH registration data. There are more details on the transition of ECHA's published data to ECHA CHEM here.

Description of key information

The Grewer-oven test showed the beginning of an exothermic reaction at about 352.8 °C. Therefore no further testing was
necessary because the judgement criterion was not fulfilled. Therefore the sample dibismuth trisulfide can be excluded from the hazard class
“self-heating substances”.

Key value for chemical safety assessment

Autoflammability / Self-ignition temperature at 101 325 Pa:
352.8 °C

Additional information

At about 352.8 °C the beginning of an exothermic reaction was observed.

According to the UN “Transport of Dangerous Goods, Manual of tests & Criteria”, Annex 6, point 5.2.2, the classification procedure for

self-heating substances need not be applied if the result of a suitable screening test (e.g. Grewer-oven, VDI 2263) shows an onset temperature of 80 K above the reference temperature of 140 °C (reference temperature is related to the conditions of the 1 l wire mesh cube test at 140 °C).

Therefore additional tests are only necessary in the case of an onset temperature of <220 °C. The inaccuracy of temperature measurement was

± 0.5 K.
